Millsbridge models the Milnsbridge area of Huddersfield in 2mm scale ('N' gauge), which is located two miles west of the town centre in the Colne Valley. This route was used by trains from Leeds to Manchester via Huddersfield and in the steam era featured a four-track main line.
We chose to model this area in the early 1960s steam-diesel transition period when the line was still four tracks and also had a goods yard in operation in the Milnsbridge area. A number of modifications to the original Ordnance Survey plan had to be made, these including shortening the viaduct by a few arches and the compacting of Longwood Goods yard. Scar Lane over bridge gave a natural break to the left and to the right Golcar station was used with its overbridge.
This combination of scenes are based on real locations, but with the selective compression required to create a working model railway.
